WebSphre Liberty is the next generation application server. While it provides much of the same functionality as traditional WAS, its architecture is much different. One big difference is how clustering works. Liberty's collective architecture is much more efficient, capable of supporting topologies where a collective contains thousands of members and a cluster contains hundreds of members.
